National business environment

The health and well-being services and related business activities are extremely important to the national economy. One quarter of improvement in employment is due to the nursing cluster.

Depending on the calculation method, there are 350 - 400 technology companies in the health and well-being sector in Finland. The Health and well-being Cluster's technology industry focuses on health care technology, the pharmaceutical industry, diagnostics as well as manufacturing of sport and rehabilitation equipment and functional foods. The industrial output of this sector is significant – about three billion euros.

The sector is thriving at the same time when it is undergoing considerable change. At the moment it employs more than 300,000 persons in Finland. The health and well-being sector can also be seen as encompassing more than social and health service; it includes sport and fitness services and cultural and environmental health care services.
