Sport and fitness businesses; technologies and services

By developing new technologies and concepts for sports and fitness we support creation of new solutions for prevention of diseases and promotion of health.

The sport and fitness technology includes varied technology applications associated with sport, motion, exercise and physical activity. Applications can include sophisticated measuring and monitoring instruments and programmes, sports equipment, sport themes as well as technologies and applications associated to the thrill of physical training. The sport and fitness technology aims to allow individuals keeping themselves fit to benefit from the latest technological devices.

Sport and fitness technology is based on knowledge of exercise physiology and biomechanics about how the human body processes movement and what happens in the body during exercise and sports. New devices and technology allow fitness parameters to be measured and this information can be converted into an understandable form. Sport and fitness technology provides instruments for all who are interested in their own wellbeing – from top-rank athletes and their coaches to the elderly.

As a partner in the development of the sport and fitness technology in the Centre of Expertise Programme of the Health and Well-being acts KIHU – Research Institute for Olympic Sports concentrates mainly on applied research. Through the Centre of Expertise Programme, enterprises can have access to the expertise and research resources of KIHU and, at the same time, they can conduct proof of concept – or validating level research linked to product development. KIHU also offers market research based on scientific investigation which can be used to discover methods and technologies suitable for measurement of specific needs or to map potential competitors. In addition, KIHU offers enterprises the possibility to participate in cooperation projects with various sport federations and the Olympic committee.
